Municipal Monitor Q4 2018

CATEGORY: Business

Cannabis has been legal in Canada since October, but Ontario retailers are still sorting through a confusing jumble of new rules. The province simply didn’t have enough time to be proactive. Read about their attempts to clear away the smoke in the Q4 issue of the Municipal Monitor. Also in this issue: The baby boomers are exiting the work force and the new gig economy isn’t wedded to working from offices. That means less property tax revenue for municipalities. With more people leaving for greener pastures as well as working from home, smaller cities must get creative about their capital financing. It’s a new world order for cities, but they still have to worry about traditional problems, too, such as being sued by their citizens. The Q4 issue is all about changing and adapting in 2018, and there is a wealth of interesting reading on every page!
